The Saint Vincent women's bowling team won two of three games against visiting Daemen University in a head-to-head match, including a near-perfect game of 299.
SVC, entering the match as the #9 team in the nation in the Division II/III poll, opened the match with a 156-pin victory in a traditional game over the Wildcats, ranked #12. Freshman
Daphne Stuber and junior
Sabine Strickland led the way, each shooting a 224 game.
Skyy Nicholls added a 191.
Up next was a five-game set of Baker team games, in which each bowler throws two frames to combine for a 10-frame game. Saint Vincent took the early lead with a 174-173 win in game one, then extended the lead with a 200-164 win in game two.
In game three, the Bearcats nearly achieved perfection.
Monique Koehler started the game with a strike, followed by strikes from Stuber, Strickland,
Abby Justice and Nicholls. Koehler stepped up in the sixth and extended the strike streak, followed by Stuber and Strickland. Justice struck in the 9th, setting up Nicholls for the 10th frame. After a perfect strike on the first shot in the 10th, Nicholls' second shot was left of target but still managed to carry the strike, giving the Bearcats 11 in a row and a chance for the rare perfect game. Unfortunately, the 12th shot also went left of the target, resulting in a 9-count and a 299 finish. The game was still set two records, for most consecutive strikes and highest single-game score.
SVC finished the five-game set with a 1015-832 win.
Daemen battled back in the final five-game Baker block, opening up an 82-pin lead after three games. Saint Vincent cut into the margin with a 47-pin win in game four, but Daemen won the last game by a score of 195-179 to earn the 887-836 win.
Justice led the team in Bakers with an average of 200.4, followed by Nicholls (195) and Stuber (185).
Saint Vincent is now 52-11 on the season and will host the Br. Pat Lacey Memorial Tournament on Saturday at Lincoln Lanes in Latrobe.
