LATROBE, Pa. (Mar. 23)- The Saint Vincent men's volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep against Penn State-Behrend on Saturday night.

That is the first win in program history for the Bearcats over the Lions.

Saint Vincent (16-7, 7-0 AMCC) defeated Penn State-Behrend (8-13, 3-2 AMCC) by set scores of 26-24, 25-15, and 27-25.

Shawn McSwiggen led the way for the Bearcats with 17 kills and 16 digs in the win.
Zach Wyant had a solid night too, recording 29 assists and 21 digs, leading Saint Vincent in both of those categories.
Zebadiah Wyant recorded 12 kills to add to the Saint Vincent total.

Matthew Minkin added eight kills and 11 digs, while
Rocco Marino led Saint Vincent with three blocks.
Zachary Mumpower also had two blocks for the Bearcats.

In the opening set, Behrend took the first advantage as they quickly took a 4-1 lead. Saint Vincent answered with a 5-0 run, scoring on two kills from Zeb Wyant, a kill from Minkin, a service ace from McSwiggen, and attack error by the Lions as SVC took a 6-4 lead.

Behrend climbed back into it as they eventually tied the set up at 9-9 and then it remained tied at 12-12. The Bearcats went on to score six of the next eight points to take an 18-14 lead. The Lions once again battled back cutting the lead to one at 19-18.

The teams continued to trade points back-and-forth as Behrend tied the set up at 24-24. Saint Vincent scored the final two points on a kill from McSwiggen and an attack error by Behrend allowed the Bearcats to win the first set (26-24), taking a 1-0 lead in the match.

It was all SVC in the second set. The Bearcats opened up to a 7-3 lead and then eventually increased their lead to 17-10. After a Behrend point, Saint Vincent scored four of the next five, two of which came on kills from Mumpower and Minkin to give SVC a 22-12 lead.

The teams traded the final points of the set, but the Bearcats scored two of the final three, one coming on a kill from McSwiggen and a service error to give Saint Vincent the second set (25-15), taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set, it went back-and-forth as Behrend held a slight 15-14 lead, but that's when the momentum shifted towards SVC. The Bearcats scored the next three in a row and five of the next six, two of which came on kills from Zeb Wyant giving Saint Vincent a 19-16 lead.

Behrend answered with a 5-2 run to tie the set up at 21-21. Saint Vincent answered with the next three points, before the Lions scored three in a row as the set was tied 24-24. After an SVC timeout, the Bearcats scored three of the final four points to win the set.

The Bearcats scored the final two points on kills from McSwiggen as the Bearcats won the third set (27-25), sweeping Behrend for the first time in program history.

SVC compiled 43 kills, six aces, eight blocks, 40 assists, and 74 digs. Behrend on the other hand had 39 kills, two service aces, six blocks, 36 assists, and 67 digs.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, March 26, as they travel to Mount Aloysius to take on the Mounties in an AMCC match. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night.
