Five Bearcats land CSC Academic All-District honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. (March 27) – Five Saint Vincent College basketball student-athletes have been named Academic All-District® by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) for the 2023-24 season.
 
Sophomore Dev Ostrowski (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) was named to the CSC Division III Men's Basketball Academic All-District Team, while graduate student Madison Weber (Grampian, Pa./Curwensville), seniors Lizzie Bender (Twinsburg, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) and Alana Winkler (Wexford, Pa./Vincentian Academy) and junior Emily Thompson (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) were named to the CSC Division III Women's Basketball All-District Team.
 
The CSC Academic All-District team recognizes student-athletes who are of at least sophomores in academic standing, hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher, and are starters and/or major contributors to their teams.
 
In his first season at Saint Vincent College, Ostrowski was one of the most dangerous scorers in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. He averaged 17.3 points per game, and ranked third in the PAC with 56 made three-pointers on 126 attempts, while he placed sixth in the conference with 54 steals. He scored in double figures in 24 of 27 games, netting 20 or more points 13 times, including two 30-plus point performances. He also connected on three or more three-pointers in 10 different games. A second team All-PAC selection, Ostrowski is a Dean's List honoree majoring in sport management.
 
Weber earns CSC Academic All-District laurels for the second consecutive season. She battled through injury to appear in 22 games with 18 starts in 2023-24, averaging 9.9 points and 8.9 rebounds with 22 blocked shots. Weber scored in double figures in 13 games and grabbed 10 or more rebounds 10 times, while recording six double-doubles. A 2021-22 All-PAC honoree, Weber amassed 689 points and 548 rebounds over her 87-game career. She graduated with honors from Saint Vincent in 2023 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and is currently pursuing a master's in criminology at Saint Vincent.  
 
Bender was a full-time starter for the Bearcats in the low post this past season, averaging 7.5 points and 4.7 rebounds, while shooting 53 percent from the field and 69 percent from the foul line. She scored in double figures in seven games, while she grabbed six or more rebounds in eight different contests. Over her four-year, 76-game career, Bender amassed 509 points and 323 rebounds, while shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 72.6 percent from the foul line. A communication major, Bender is a four-year Dean's List selection.
 
Winkler repeats as a CSC Academic All-District honoree. In 2023-24, the veteran started 24 games at the small forward position, averaging 3.2 points and 5.1 rebounds. She also placed second on the team with 45 assists, while adding 18 steals. Winkler grabbed six or more rebounds in 10 different games, with two 10-rebound efforts, while dishing at least two assists 13 times. A four-year Dean's List honoree, Winkler is a communication major with a minor in marketing.
 
Thompson, who earned honorable mention All-PAC accolades, also repeats as a CSC Academic All-District selection. This past season, Thompson started 23 games and averaged 10.6 points and 4.1 rebounds, ranking second on the team with 28 three-point field goals. She scored in double figures in 17 different games, and connected on two or more three-pointers 10 times. Her top performance of the season came on Dec. 9 against Geneva College, when she recorded a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double, while she scored 19 points in a win over Allegheny on Feb. 14 and 17 points against Westminster on Nov. 18. A health science major at Saint Vincent, Thompson has been named to the Dean's List in every semester of attendance.
 
CSAC Academic All-District honorees are nominated by their institution's athletic communication professionals, and may be eligible for the prestigious CSC Academic All-America honor. The CSC Academic All-America men's and women's basketball teams will be announced on April 16.
