NEWARK, N.J. (April 20) – The Saint Vincent College men's volleyball team saw its season end with a 3-0 loss at Rutgers-Newark in the semifinals of the 2024 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship Tournament.
The host Raiders (15-12) took the three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-13 and 25-22.
The Bearcats (19-9) hit a solid .281 for the match but were hampered by a strong service game from Rutgers-Newark, which produced 15 aces.
In the final match of a stellar career,
Matthew Minkin topped the Bearcats with 11 kills, while also picking up five digs to share the team lead with
Tyler Nelson and
Zach Wyant.
Zebadiah Wyant added six kills and
Zachary Mumpower three, while
Zach Wyant,
Zebadiah Wyant, and
Rocco Marino each registered two blocks.
Zach Wyant doled out 17 assists.
With the win, Rutgers-Newark advances to the ECAC championship match against New Jersey City University.
The loss concludes the most successful season in program history for Saint Vincent. The Bearcats set program records with 19 overall wins and nine Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victories, while they finished as runners-up in the 2024 AMCC Championship Tournament. The ECAC tourney selection was also the first-ever postseason berth for the fifth-year program.
Five players landed All-AMCC honors, including first team selections Minkin,
Zach Wyant and
Shawn McSwiggen, and third team selections
Zebadiah Wyant and
Matthew Klasnic. Head coach
Kate McCauley was tabbed the AMCC Coach of the Year.
