TRAFFORD, Pa. (April 22) – Two Saint Vincent College student-athletes have been recognized with weekly honors from the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
Freshman
Brady Johnson (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) was named the PAC Men's Tennis Newcomer of the Week for his play over the week of April 15, while junior
Brady Beard (Shepherdstown, W.Va./Spring Mills) was tabbed the PAC Men's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week.
Johnson went a combined 6-2 in four PAC matches. In SVC's win over Waynesburg, Johnson teamed up with
Matthew Sadusky to earn an 8-7 (7-1) win at No. 1 doubles, while Johnson earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles. A day later at Thiel, he again earned two wins, teaming with Sadusky for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles and then winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. On Thursday against Grove City, Johnson and Sadusky's 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles proved to be the Bearcats' lone with in the match, while on Saturday, Johnson won a marathon 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 decision at No. 4 singles.
In the Bearcat men's lacrosse team's 2-0 week, Beard won 27 of 31 faceoffs, while totaling 12 ground balls. In Wednesday's win over Bethany, Beard went 16-for-17 on faceoffs and collected five GBs, before winning 11 of 14 in the circle in Saturday's victory at Thiel, to go with a team-high seven ground balls. On the season, Beard has won 103 of 172 faceoffs and ranks sixth in the PAC with an average of 6.00 ground balls per game.
Johnson and the SVC men's tennis team is back in action on Tuesday, hosting Geneva College in the opening round of the PAC Championship Tournament at 4 p.m. on the SVC Courts. Beard's squad opens up its final week of the regular season with a 7 p.m. matchup at Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday.
