LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 2) -- After backstopping the Saint Vincent women's soccer team to a pair of victories over the season's opening weekend, freshman goalkeeper
Rilyn Warner has been selected the Presidents' Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week.
Warner (Granville, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) produced shutouts in each of her first two career starts in goal, amassing 11 saves over the two victories.
In Friday's 1-0 season-opening victory over Marietta College, Warner saved all eight shots that she faced to earn the first clean sheet of her career. Two days later, Warner made three saves in the Bearcats' 3-0 whitewashing of Hiram College.
This marks the first time since 2018, and just the second time since 2000, that the SVC women's soccer team started a season 2-0, while it's the first time in program history that the team posted back-to-back shutout wins to open a season.
Warner and the Bearcats will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 4, making the short trip to Pitt-Greensburg to face the Bobcats in the Battle of Route 30, with kickoff slated for 4 p.m.
