SVC's Pilyih earns second National Rookie of the Year honor

On the heels of being named the NCAA's National D3 Rookie of the Year, Saint Vincent freshman Mareana Pilyih has added another top honor.

She has been named the 2024-25 Collegiate Rookie of the Year by the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association (NCBCA), the top honor for a freshman competing in any level nationwide, including all three NCAA divisions, NAIA, and Club programs, a total of 175 colleges.  The announcement was made at the Intercollegiate Team Championships Night of Champions banquet, held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pilyih was one of four finalists for the award, which represents all NCAA divisions, as well as NAIA and Club programs.  The list of past winners includes many of the top professionals competing in the sport today.

Pilyih, who finished the season with a 191.3 average to lead the Bearcats, had five top-5 individual finishes and six top-10s in 11 US Bowling Congress tournaments this year, which placed her eighth in the nation in that category.

The freshman is a native of Pittsburgh and a 2024 graduate of Plum High School.
