Bearcats take first place at AMCC Tournament


FINAL RESULTS

The Saint Vincent women's bowling team saw its season-long win streak stopped at 24, but managed to finish the weekend in first place in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference round robin tournament held in Erie, Pennsylvania.
 
SVC finished the weekend with a 5-1 record, and the team is now 24-1 on the season.
 
DAY ONE
The Bearcats opened the tournament with a five-game match against Pitt-Bradford.  SVC fell behind by 21 pins after the first two games, but bounced back games of 209 and 192 to take the lead and pull away, winning the match by a score of 853-810.
 
Up next was a matchup against Alvernia University, and SVC got off to a better start, winning the opening game by a score of 181-147.  After three games, Alvernia had cut the gap to just 25 pins, but the Bearcats responded with games of 246 and 242 to finish the match, winning by a final score of 1007-859.
 
SVC posted games of 209 and 222 in round three against Pitt-Greensburg, winning the match by a final score of 953-565, setting up the final game of the day against rival William Smith.
 
The Herons took the early lead, winning game one by a 165-151 margin, before SVC won game two, 179-166 to cut the difference to just one pin.  Game three was the turning point, with the Bearcats outscoring William Smith 190-139.  The Herons captured the final two games, 169-161 and 180-150, but the Bearcats held on for the 831-819 win to finish the day at 4-0 and run the team's winning streak to 23.
 
DAY TWO
In an abbreviated second day, SVC had only two matches and a "bye" in the final round.  The team opened against Penn State-Behrend, and jumped out to a 51-pin lead after a 209-158 win in game one.  After the Lions won game two by a 189-188 score, SVC pulled away in game three, winning 210-129, then went on to post a 947-810 win, which ran the team's record win streak to 24 games.
 
The final match of the weekend was against Hilbert University, and the Hawks got off to a strong start, opening an 84-pin lead after two games.  SVC cut into the margin in game three with a 214-180 win, but Hilbert countered in game four with a 202-198 win, before capturing the final game 182-176 for a 941-881 victory.
 
For the weekend, SVC was led on the scoresheet by sophomore Kaylie Kurland, who averaged 206.7.  She was followed by classmate Lilly Houle (194.3), juniors Skyy Nicholls (188.5), Lexi Pilyih (186.7) and Daphne Stuber (183.3). 

Saint Vincent ended the weekend as the only team with just one loss, as Hilbert, Penn State-Behrend and William Smith all finished at 4-2. 
 
SVC will face several NCAA Division 1 programs next weekend, as they travel to Buffalo for the Hilbert Hammer Classic.
