LATROBE, Pa. (Apr. 26)- The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team earned a dominant 27-0 shutout victory in their regular season finale against Thiel on senior day at UPMC Field.
Saint Vincent (9-7, 6-2 PAC) dominated from start to finish, outscoring Thiel (1-14, 0-8 PAC) 19-0 in the first half, before adding eight more goals in the second half.
Jonathan Nagy led the Bearcats offensive attack, totaling seven points. Nagy scored four goals, while dishing out three assists in the win.
Carter Haid (3 goals, 2 assists),
Eli Hartle (4 goals, 1 assist), and
Liam McCall (2 goals, 3 assists) all recorded five points each for the Bearcats as well.
Luca Blevins added a goal and three assists, while
Reed Hunt and
Calvin Rose both scored three goals each.
Owen Rogers and
Cole Vollero both scored twice and
Jacob Crumling scored once and dished out one assist, while four different Bearcats recorded one point as well.
Shawn Ryan and
Justin Wodarek both scored once, while
Brady Beard and
Jared Gennuso both dished out one assist each. Beard also went 16-17 in faceoffs and scooped up an impressive nine ground balls.
Mason Krabbe also went 6-7 in faceoffs, while picking up four ground balls.
Isaiah Francis added four ground ball pickups and two caused turnovers in the win.
Zander Vetter and
Colin Cooper added three ground ball pickups each.
Ryan Rutherford led Saint Vincent with three caused turnovers.
Jackson Blow,
Tyler Friend, and
Bryan Millward combined for the shutout in goal for SVC, while Blow picked up two ground balls.
SVC outshot Thiel 74-6, including 50-2 in shots on goal. The Bearcats forced 30 Thiel turnovers, while only turning it over 13 times. Saint Vincent limited Thiel to go 12-29 on clears, while the Bearcats were an impressive 22-24 on their end. SVC dominated in ground balls at a 51-14 clip and faceoffs at a 25-6 clip. Saint Vincent also went 2-5 on extra man opportunities.
Saint Vincent has earned the number three seed in next week's PAC Championship Tournament and will travel to take on second seeded Chatham on Wednesday, April 30. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the PAC Semi's on Wednesday night.
