PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Jan. 24)- The Saint Vincent College (SVC) women's swimming team finished a two-day meet at the Western PA Invitational at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU).
The invite had six teams participating CMU, Grove City College, Chatham University, Saint Francis University, Duquesne University, and SVC. The meet was unscored.
The SVC team had some top performances notably from junior Adrianna Grimm and senior Rachel Hutchinson. Grimm swam the 200- and 100-yard backstroke and 50-yard freestyle. Her best performance of the meet came in the 100-yard backstroke with a personal best and a sixth-place finish.
Hutchinson swam with a vengeance in the mile event taking back her first place PAC ranking and set a new personal record by 12 seconds. She finished third. She also competed in the 100-, 200-, and 500-yard freestyles.
Junior Teresa Grimm and sophomore Fallyn Zembiec also had impressive meets. Grimm had her best race with the 100-yard breaststroke setting a new personal record. Zembiec continues to own the 200-yard backstroke with a two second improvement. Freshman Ava Sutter and junior Cecilia Hickin assisted in the sprint freestyle and backstroke events splitting good times and new personal bests.
Senior Emma Martz swam her best in the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley finishing in 18th for both events. Four relays were swum over the two days and were the focus of many swimmers.
The 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay were on Friday night. The freestyle A-relay placed 12th and consisted of Adrianna Grimm, Hickin, Sutter, and Martz. The A medley relay was made up of both Grimm sisters, Hickin, and Sutter placing 9th.
On Saturday, the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay was swum. The first A relay placed 12th and consisted of Hickin, Zembiec, Teresa and Adrianna Grimm. The freestyle relay placed 9th with Sutter, Martz, Hickin, and Adrianna Grimm.
The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, January 31, competing against Westminster in their final PAC meet of the season before the PAC Championships next month. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with senior day festivities taking place prior to the meet.
