LATROBE, Pa. (Jan. 29) – The Saint Vincent wrestling team delivered a commanding performance Thursday night, rolling to a 52–3 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over Waynesburg University in the Robert S. Carey Center.
Saint Vincent won nine of the 10 contested bouts, including six forfeits, to secure the lopsided team score and continue its strong conference showing.
The Bearcats opened the match with momentum at 125 pounds, where
Dylan Klim earned a 15–3 major decision over Rylan Parker to give SVC an early 4–0 advantage.
That lead quickly ballooned as Saint Vincent picked up consecutive forfeits at 133, 141, 149, 157 and 165 pounds, with wins credited to
Logan Connolly,
Tyler Debnar,
Anthony Orlandini,
Ryan Yocum and
Connor Bauerline, pushing the team score to 34–0.
Waynesburg earned its lone points of the night at 174 pounds, as Jessie Orbin claimed a 9–2 decision over
Chase Brandebura to make the score 34–3.
Saint Vincent responded immediately, regaining control at 184 pounds when
Nathan Barkley pinned AJ Tomaino at 2:33, extending the Bearcats' lead to 40–3. The momentum continued at 197 pounds with another forfeit victory by
Ryan Weinzen, before
Jonah McCoy closed out the dual at heavyweight with a fall over Austin Fleming to finalize the 52–3 result.
An exhibition bout followed at 285 pounds, where Brad Miller recorded a pin over Alexander Paulsen in 1:57, adding to Saint Vincent's strong night on the mat.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Thursday, February 5 with their final PAC dual of the season against Bethany. The dual is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Carey Center with senior day festivities taking place prior to the match.
