INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
The Saint Vincent women's bowling team secured the #1 seed in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships next month by posting a 5-1 record in the conference's second round robin tournament of the season, held in Reading, Pennsylvania.
SVC finished the two-event round-robin series with a 10-2 record.
Sophomore
Brooke Street led all bowlers in the weekend tournament, with a total of 1243 pins, an average of 207.2 over six games.
Mareana Pilyih averaged 188, while
Kaylie Kurland averaged 186.5 to round out the top three for the Bearcats.
DAY ONE
SVC got off to a slow start, dropping the opening game of the weekend to host Alvernia University, 911-849.
Brooke Street and
Skyy Nicholls posted the top scores, each shooting 193.
The team bounced back in the second match, defeating Pitt-Greensburg, 838-518. Street's 207 led the way for the Bearcats.
The third match was the anticipated battle for the #1 seed, as SVC faced William Smith College. SVC jumped out to an early lead thanks to six strikes on the first 12 throws of the game. The Herons fought back, while SVC began to leave splits mid-game, leaving the teams tied after five frames. William Smith then pulled away to a 63-pin advantage after eight frames, putting the Bearcats into a must-strike situation in frame 9.
The team answered the call, as all five Bearcats –
Skyy Nicholls,
Kaylie Kurland,
Lilly Houle,
Mareana Pilyih and
Brooke Street – threw strikes in the ninth frame to cut the gap in half going to the final frame. Nicholls threw three strikes in the 10th frame, while Kurland added a strike on her first throw of the frame, leaving the gap at just 20. Houle left a 10-pin and covered the spare, reducing the Herons' lead to just 10. Pilyih then stepped up and struck on her first two throws, while Street followed her triple in frames 7, 8 and 9 with a strike on the first shot in the 10th to seal the comeback win, 960-932.
SVC ended the day with its best game of the afternoon, defeating Hilbert College by a score of 994-828. Three Bearcats broke the 200 mark, led by Kurland's 247. Pilyih added a 215, while Nicholls finished with a 212.
DAY TWO
The Bearcats swept their second day matches, defeating Pitt-Bradford by a score of 890-654, then wrapping up the weekend with a 991-918 win over Penn State-Behrend. Street's 231 led the way against UPB.
In the Behrend match, SVC fell behind by 50 pins midway through the game, but turned things around in the second half of the match, pulling away to a 73-pin victory. Street once again posted the top score (215), while
Savannah Douglass added a 212, and Pilyih finished with a 205.
Saint Vincent finishes the regular season with a record of 42-3, and will move on to the postseason in March, starting with the Intercollegiate Team Championships the weekend of March 14-15, followed by the AMCC Championships the weekend of March 20-22.
