FINAL RESULTS
FREDONIA, N.Y. (Dec. 4) - The Saint Vincent women's swimming team claimed a second-place finish nine teams and the men finished fifth of eight teams at the Blue Devil Invitational hosted by the State University of New York, Fredonia.
The women set three school records and a pool record on the final day of competition.
In the 200 freestyle,
Carolyn Claybrooks set a school record with a time of 1:59.87 to win the event.
Alyssa Taylor captured first place and established a new school mark with a time of 58:79 in the 100 butterfly. In the 400 IM,
Molly McCloskey finished third while setting a school record with a time of 4:54.73.
The Bearcats also set a pool record at Fredonia in the 400 free relay.
Sarah Robbins,
Megan Samoriski,
Maggie Dempsey and
Katie Custer won the event with a time of 3:39.64.
On the men's side,
Joe Woodman won the 200 free with a school-record time of 1:46.98. He was also a part of the record-setting 400 free relay as
Zach Ligus,
Logan Dorminey,
Matt Linebaugh and Woodman finished second with a time of 3:16.32.
DAY TWO RECAP:
Early in the day, the women's 200 free relay team of
Maggie Dempsey,
Alexis Ferraco,
Sarah Robbins and
Katie Custer earned the victory with a time of 1:41.92.
Alyssa Taylor started off the night session by posting a victory in the 200 butterfly after shaving nearly two seconds off of her preliminary time and touching the wall in 2:10.88.
In the men's 200 butterfly,
Zach Ligus finished second with a time of 2:00.99, more than two seconds faster than his preliminary speed.
For the women,
Christine Dunleavy claimed a victory in the 100 breaststroke by almost 2.5 seconds at 1:07.57.
Ligus earned a second-place finish in the men's 100 free, cutting half a second off his time from the preliminaries with a 48:06. Custer, Robbins and Dempsey finished second, third and fourth, respectively in the women's 100 free.
Later on in the session, Taylor also earned a win in the 500 free by .65 with a time of 5:19.23 while
Joe Woodman made it a sweep for the Bearcats in the 500 free, winning the event by more than seven seconds at 4:48.44.
DAY ONE RECAP:
In the women's 50 free finals,
Katie Custer finished second with a time of 24.89 while
Maggie Dempsey touched the wall .28 later to finish third. Each improved on their preliminary times after finishing in the same positions in the early race.
Molly McCloskey earned the win in the women's 1650 free event with a school-record time of 18:28.57. Teammate
Carolyn Claybrooks finished fourth in the event with a time of 19:08.95. In the men's version,
Sam Cline earned a third-place finish with a time of 18:03.49 and
Kreighton Long touched the wall fourth in 18:12.73.
The Bearcat women claimed victory and set another school record in the 800 free relay as the team of
Alexis Ferraco,
Alyssa Taylor, Claybrooks and
Sarah Robbins won by nearly five seconds with a time of 8:06.34.
Another Bearcat record fell in the men's 200 IM when
Joe Woodman posted an exhibition time of 2:01.81.
In the men's 800 free relay,
Matt Linebaugh,
Logan Dorminey, Cline and Woodman earned a second-place finish by posting a 7:24.65 time.
SVC returns to the pool on Friday, Dec. 9 when they travel to Mount Union (Ohio).
