FULL RESULTS
The Saint Vincent swim teams had a successful weekend in Fredonia, NY, as the women finished 2nd and the men took 3rd among eight teams in their respective divisions in the Blue Devil Invitational, hosted by Fredonia State.
For the weekend, the Bearcat men set seven school records and one pool record, while
Mary Kate Kenna set a new school record in the women's 200 breaststroke.
Matt Linebaugh set the first record of the weekend, timed in 21.95 in his preliminary heat of the 50 Freestyle. He later finished fourth in the final (22.14), while teammate
Casey Whittaker (22.07) was third.
Zach Ligus set a school and pool record, winning the 200 Fly in 1:57.31, earning 20 points for the team in the process. He had earlier won his preliminary in 1:57.47.
Kenna's 200 Breaststroke school record earned her a fourth place finish in the final of that event, timed in 2:32.24.
SVC's Whittaker,
Andy Moog, Ligus and Linebaugh finished third in the final of the 400 Medley Relay, setting a school record of 3:39.75.
Linebaugh then set another school record, finishing second in the 200 Free in 1:45.15. He had earlier won his preliminary heat in 1:46.72.
Moog set a school record in the 200 Breaststroke, finishing third in the final in 2:13.62. He also finished second in the final of the 100 Breast, timed in 59.95, another school record.
In other results,
Katie Custer finished third in the Final of the 50 Freestyle, timed in 25.10. She finished just ahead of teammate
Paige Pecora (25.23).
Molly McCloskey finished third in the final of the 1650 Free, with a time of 18:36.89, while
Matt Crum was third in the men's final, timed in 17:28.94.
In the 800 Free Relay, the team of
Alexis Ferraco,
Alyssa Taylor, McCloskey and
Carolyn Claybrooks finished second in 8:07.44, while the men also took second with the team of Ligus,
Matt Crum, Linebaugh and
Henry Signore (7:14.88).
The women's 200 Free Relay team of Ferraco, Sarah Robins, Pecora and Custer was second in 1:40.49, just 18/100 of a second behind the winning team from Fredonia, which set a pool record. The men's 200 free team (Ligus, Signore, Whittaker, Linebaugh) was third, in 1:28.16.
Alyssa Taylor won the final of the 200 Fly, timed in 2:11.26, three seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. McCloskey was third in the final, timed in 2:17.60. Taylor was third the 500 Free, timed in 5:24.38
In the 100 Free, SVC's Pecora and Ferraco finished 1-2, with Pecora tripping the timer in 55.21, just .09 ahead of her teammate. Ligus was second in the men's final, timed in 48.18.
Linebaugh captured first in the men's 500 Free, timed in 4:51.11, more than six seconds ahead of his nearest challenger.
In the women's 200 Medley Relay, SVC's
Jess Smrekar, Kenna, Taylor and Custer finished third in 1:52.98, just .26 behind the winning team in a tight finish. On the men's side,
Tanner Beal, Moog, Whittaker and
Darren Anderton finished second in 1:41.03.
SVC's Ferraco (2nd) and Claybrooks (3rd) were timed in 2:00.74 and 2:01.26, respectively, in the 200 Free.
In the 100 Fly, Custer finished second in 1:00.13, ahead of teammates Robbins (1:00.79) and Taylor (1:00.81).
Signore took first place in the 400 IM, as his time of 4:24.59 was more than five seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
The women's 400 Free Relay team of Ferraco, Custer, Robbins and Pecora finished second in 3:40.46, less than a half second behind the winning team. The men's team of Ligus, Crum, Linebaugh and Whittaker finished third in its division (3:13.84), with Ligus setting a school record in his leg.
The teams are now off until January 12, when they return to action against Penn State-Altoona on the road.
