FINAL RESULTS
The SVC women's team finished in third place, while the men took 4th in the 2013 Presidents' Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by Grove City. SVC's
Josh Gurekovich earned Women's Coach of the Year honors, chosen by his peers.
DAY ONE:
Both 200 freestyle relays finished second in the finals, as the men's team of
Zach Ligus,
Matt Linebaugh,
Casey Whittaker and Allan Sant touched the wall in 1:24.65, just .29 behind winner Grove City. The women's team of
Alexis Ferraco,
Paige Pecora,
Sarah Robbins and
Katie Custer posted a time of 1:36.65 in their second-place finish.
Ligus earned an individual second place in the 50 freestyle, finishing .16 behind Grove City's Eric Fairchild with a time of 21.18.
Custer and Robbins placed second and third, respectively, in the women's 50 freestyle with time of 24.54 and 24.68.
Alyssa Taylor earned third place in the 500 freestyle in 5:14.30.
In total, SVC combined to break 10 records on the event's first day between the preliminaries and finals.
DAY TWO:
Whittaker took second place in the 100 Fly with a time of 52.29, while Linebaugh was third in the final of the 200 Free with a time of 1:44.89.
In relay competition, SVC took third in the 800 Free, timed in 7:04.86. Ligus, Linebaugh,
Henry Signore and Whittaker represented the Bearcats.
In the women's 200 Medley Relay,
Jess Smrekar,
Mary Kate Kenna,
Alyssa Taylor and Custer teamed for a second place finish (1:48.89).
Taylor also captured second in the final of the 100 Fly, timed in 57.71, while Kenna was second in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:09.09. Taylor's time was good enough for an NCAA Division III B-Cut.
In the 800 Free Relay, Taylor, Ferraco, Pecora and
Carolyn Claybrooks finished third in 8:04.20.
DAY THREE:
Ligus was a strong second place finisher in the 200 Fly, timed in 1:55.34, just over one second away from first. Whittaker finished second in the 100 Free (47.66), while
Andy Moog was third in the 200 Breast, finishing in 2:09.17. In relays, the SVC men took third in the 400 Free, as the team of Linebaugh, Signore, Sant and Whittaker hit the wall in 3:11.62.
Mary Kate Kenna provided the lone top three finish of the day for SVC, capturing third in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:30.48.
Taylor earned another NCAA-III B-Cut by finishing third in the 200 Fly, with a time of 2:07.76.
In all, the Bearcats set a total of 22 school records during the three-day meet.
