The Saint Vincent men's tennis program is coming off a successful 2012 season which saw the team finish second in the PAC standings for the second straight season. Individually, all six Bearcat regulars earned All-Conference honors.
This year, head coach
Enrico Campi is setting his sights just as high, if not higher.
“We have a lot of talent this year. I would be disappointed if we don't finish at least second, and I think we have our best chance to win this year since we joined the PAC,” says Campi, who has been at the helm of the SVC program since his graduation from the college in 1984.
Tony Costantino and
Anthony Nemanic will be joined at the top of the depth chart this year by newcomer David Cenkner. Cenkner a graduate of Mount Pleasant HS, was a WPIAL runner-up and PIAA quarterfinalist in high school.
Costantino, a sophomore from Canonsburg, PA, finished as the runner-up at #1 singles in the PAC last season and posted a 12-5 singles record. Nemanic, a junior from Greensburg, was 11-5 overall in 2012.
Nathan Walch,
Chris Andrejcik and
Sean Malone also return to the starting lineup this year, giving Campi plenty of options.
“We are going to be trying different lineups throughout the early part of the year, especially in doubles.”
Last season, Nemanic was part of the #1 doubles team that finished as runners-up in the PAC Championship, but partner
Dan Chirdon has graduated.
“I'm really looking forward to this season,” says Campi. “I'm ready to get it started.”
The season begins on Tuesday night, February 26 with a 9:30PM matchup at home against Pitt-Greensburg.
