SVC drops close game to King's, 7-6

LATROBE (March 8) - The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team dropped a close game to King's (Pa.) on the SVC Turf, falling 7-6 to the Monarchs.

With the loss the Bearcats drop to 2-1 on the season, while the Monarchs remain unbeaten at 3-0.

King's struck first, with Lenny Fox scoring just 2:21 into play. Bryce Pasquariello answered the goal after a pass from Anthony Altieri, to tie the game, 1-1. The Monarchs scored the final goal of the first quarter to lead 2-1 after 15 minutes.

Altieri again assisted on an equalizer as Sean Kretovics scored with 13:46 remaining in the first half, 2-2. A pair of Monarchs' goals were answered by a Jay Lunz score (from Alex Walsh) with 15 seconds in the half, and SVC trailed, 4-3, at halftime.

Nick Pensyl started the second half with a goal just 1:09 into play to tie the game, 4-4, but King's scored the next two goals to open up a 6-4 lead. Altieri then got SVC within one at the 5:21-mark, with an assist to Kretovics, before Zach Clark once again tied the game, 6-6, just 1:20 later. King's would score the eventual game-winner with just 32 seconds left in the third quarter, 7-6, the game's final goal.

Altieri posted a game-high three points (one goal, two assists), while Kretovics has a pair of points (one goal, one assist). Five other Bearcats recorded a point, while Clark and Matt Mackey paced the team with seven shots apiece.

SVC out-shot King's in each quarter, finishing with a 43-23 advantage. The Bearcats also recovered 42 ground balls to the Monarchs' 30. Saint Vincent won nine of 16 face-offs, with Peter Hronis finishing 8-of-13.

The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, March 16, traveling to Wittenberg (Ohio) for a 1 p.m. game.
