SVC rallies from diving deficit to sweep W&J



FULL RESULTS

WASHINGTON, Pa. (Jan. 15) - Despite both teams beginning with 25-plus point deficits from the diving portion of the meet, the Saint Vincent swimming teams rallied to sweep Washington & Jefferson in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.

The men won 146-140 despite giving up 26 points in diving to improve to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the PAC. The women rallied from down 32 points to post the 153-140 victory to also improve to 3-4 and 1-1 in the league.

SVC women opened the meet with a .50-second victory in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:55.15. Jess Smrekar, Marissa Frollo, Alyssa Taylor and Paige Pecora made up the team.

Pecora won the 200 freestyle by .06 with a time of 2:00.92 and Frollo captured the 100 breaststroke by more than two seconds, touching the wall in 1:11.99.

Taylor earned the win in the 200 butterfly, timed in 2:16.64, and the 500 freestyle in 5:28.69.

Sarah Robbins earned the 100 butterfly win in 1:02.30 before SVC claimed the final two events of the meet. Frollo's time of 2:20.84 in the individual medley earned first place and Alexis Ferraco, Robbins, Taylor and Pecora won the 400 free relay by nearly four seconds with a time of 3:45.44.

For the men, SVC also kicked off with a 200 medley relay win as Adam Tran, Andy Moog, Xander Emili and Matt Linebaugh won by .79 at 1:41.29.

Matt Crum was victorious in the 1000 freestyle in 10:30.45 and Zach Ligus won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:47.95.

Moog would capture the 100 and 200 breaststrokes in 1:01.48 and 2:19.20, respectively. Emili also posted a pair of wins, being victorious in the 200 butterfly at 2:13.50 and the 200 IM in 2:03.15.

Linebaugh took the 500 freestyle by less than a second in 5:04.26 and event before Ligus registered a win in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.29.

SVC closed out the event with a victory in the 400 free relay in 3:18.06 as Linebaugh, Allen Sant, Tran and Ligus won by four seconds.

SVC has a quick turnaround, hosting Bethany on Saturday, Jan. 18, while the women will also welcome Chatham as part of a tri-meet, starting at 1 p.m.
