LATROBE (Feb. 24) - The Saint Vincent men's and women's basketball teams are set to host Presidents' Athletic Conference quarterfinal match-ups at 6 and 8 p.m., respectively, on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
The Bearcat women enter as the second seed in the league tournament for the fourth-straight season, while the men will look to defend their conference championship as the third seed.
When the women tip-off at 6 p.m., they will be hosting seventh-seeded Grove City. The Bearcats swept the season series against the Wolverines by an average of 28.0 points per game, earning an 84-67 victory in Latrobe before posting a 73-34 win in Mercer County. The 34 points was the lowest point total allowed by the Bearcats this season, and the lowest since holding Geneva to 32 points on Jan. 9, 2013.
Senior
Taylor Mathers leads the Bearcats with 15.0 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per game, while junior
Elle Collins averages 12.8 points. Freshman
Jasmine Weems dishes out 3.0 assists per contest and classmate
Mara Benvenuti registers 1.9 steals each game. Mathers leads the PAC with 2.2 blocks per game.
The women's semifinals and finals take place at the highest remaining seed following the quarterfinal round on Friday and Saturday. SVC would be in line to host with a win and a loss by top-seeded Thomas More.
For the men, SVC enters against sixth-seeded Thiel, whom it split against during the regular season. The Bearcats earned a 76-69 win in Latrobe in the first meeting before dropping a 124-121 quadruple overtime decision in Greenville the second time. In that contest, senior
Dillon Stith set the single-game school record with 50 points.
Senior
Isaac Turner and Stith rank first and second in the PAC in scoring at 21.7 and 19.3 points, respectively. Behind a league-best 16 double-doubles, Stith is also the only player averaging double figures in two categories with 10.2 rebounds per game. Sophomore
JC Howard paces the Bearcat offense with 3.8 assists per game and records 1.9 steals each contest on defense. Stith tops the team at 1.3 blocks per game.
The men's tournament plays out at host sites, as the highest remaining seeds host single games. The top remaining seed hosts the lowest remaining seed and the two middle remaining seeds play with the higher seed in each match-up hosting. The highest remaining seed hosts the championship game on Saturday, March 1.
Both of Tuesday's games will be broadcast by the PAC Sports Network (
