WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (Mar. 5) - The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team suffered a 14-2 setback on the road at King's College and McCarthy Stadium to drop to 0-3 on the season.
The hosts totaled five goals in the first quarter and four goals in the second period to take a 9-0 lead into halftime. Thanks to a stifling King's defense, the Bearcats were unable to register a shot until 7:44 remained in the second quarter.
SVC got on the board with 5:24 left in the third quarter when
Sean Kretovics made it a 10-1 game. The Monarchs scored three goals in the frame and took a 12-1 lead into the final 15 minutes.
Steven Cosgrove scored the final goal of the game with 5:08 to play, setting the final score at 14-2.
Kretovics led SVC with six shots. Cosgrove added four shots and
Nick Pensyl tallied two shots.
The Monarchs out-shot the Bearcats 57-13 and won 16 of 20 faceoffs.
Greg Gonzalez made the start in goal and recorded 20 saves in three quarters.
Logan Hoffmann played the final quarter and registered three saves.
SVC returns home for a 1 p.m. match-up with Wittenberg (Ohio) on Saturday, Mar. 8.
