The Saint Vincent men's tennis team has been predicted to finish third in the Presidents' Athletic Conference preseason poll. Perennial champion Grove City College, which enters the season seeking its 25th straight conference title, has been picked at the top.
Coached by
Enrico Campi, the Bearcats enter the 2015 season after finishing second in the President's Athletic Conference for the fourth year in a row with the hope of finally capturing that elusive conference title and bid to the national tournament. This will be no easy task for the Bearcats as they lost their former number one player,
Sean Malone, and are riddled with youth this year. Senior
Chris Andrejcik is expected to step up and fill that role at the top of the depth chart.
New to the team is
Brian Niemiec, a sophomore from Jeannette, PA, who will be reunited with his former high school teammate and current Bearcat
Dalton Yezovich.
Yezovich, who played fifth singles and third doubles last year, is one of six returning starters along with,
Scott Reichard,
Tyler Brinton,
Patrick McGee,
Vince Anto, and Andrejcik. The Bearcats will rely heavily on the success of McGee, who finished with the second highest singles win percentage in the PAC last year, and Andrejcik, who had an overall record of 18-8 in singles and doubles play.
With only two seniors on the team and seven sophomores the Bearcats hope to gain invaluable match experience for their youth as they try to maintain their recent level of competitiveness in hopes of capturing a PAC title. Saint Vincent is set to begin its season on the road against Penn State-Altoona on March 16.
