LEESBURG, Fla. (March 6) – The Saint Vincent softball team earned a split on day two of their annual Florida Spring Break trip.
SVC topped North Central University from Minnesota by a 14-0 score in five innings in the first game before falling 7-1 to Alvernia University.
Game 1 (North Central University)
Saint Vincent started strong offensively, tallying seven runs with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. Senior catcher
Breanne Wallace started the scoring with a two-run single in front of a RBI triple by freshman
Victoria Culver.

Mackenzie Gostomski tacked on an RBI single of her own before junior outfielder
Morgan Murphy added a two-run single to make it 6-0. Junior first baseman
Shelby Noel finished the first inning scoring with an RBI double to bring the Bearcats lead to 7-0.
The Bearcats tacked on two unearned runs to make it 9-0 in the second inning, which included another RBI single by Murphy.
Morgan Rittenhouse and Culver tacked on an RBI each to make it 11-0. In the fourth inning, freshman
Alyssa Turkovich started the scoring with a sacrifice fly.
Rachel Harenchar added an RBI single to bring home Murphy. Freshman outfielder
Kelsie Linden closed the scoring with an RBI groundout.
Murphy led the Bearcats with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate with three RBI.

Sophomore
Kelly Flaherty picked up the shutout victory in the circle. Flaherty allowed just two hits and struck out seven over five innings.
Game 2 (Alvernia)
Alvernia got on the board first in the second inning with an unearned run, taking advantage of an error by the Bearcats.
Saint Vincent struck back in the bottom of the inning, immediately tying the game. Sophomore catcher
Kelsey Hunter ripped a leadoff double down the left field line and would come around to score on an RBI single by Culver.
After both offenses left a runner in scoring position in the third, the Crusaders tacked on another unearned run in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead.
Hunter led off the Bearcats half of the fourth with a single to left but the threat was ended quickly with a double play.
The Crusaders batted around in the fifth inning, using five singles to plate four runs and extend their lead to 6-1. Alvernia added another in the sixth inning to strengthen its lead to 7-1.
Culver put together an excellent game, as the freshman went 3-for-3 at the plate.
Samantha Emert took the loss in the circle, allowing nine hits over 7.0 innings of work. The senior struck out four while walking five.
The split moves the Bearcats record to 2-2 for the trip.
Saint Vincent faces Monmouth College and SUNY Oneonta Tuesday in Florida.
