The Bearcats and the Thiel Tomcats split a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader on the road in Greenville.
In game one, a seventh inning home run by
Greg Martin wasn't enough, as the Bearcats fell to Thiel College by a score of 3-1. Â Saint Vincent avenged the loss with a 10-5 victory in game two.
After Martin hit a one-out home run in the top of the final inning of the opener,
TJ Kuny reached on an error and moved to third on a single by
Ramon Milke, but both runners were stranded as SVC was unable to push them across the plate.
Dave Culeton took the loss but threw well, working into the sixth inning and giving up just two earned runs. Â He walked none and struck out one. Â
Dylan Pietrantoni came out of the bullpen to induce a double play to end the sixth.
Martin had two of the Bearcats' five hits. Â The home run was his sixth of the season, most on the team.
In game two, the Bearcats wasted no time getting on the board.Â
Tanner Yard walked, then
Chris Winkler singled in the top of the first. Martin then singled home Yard, moving Winkler to second. Parick McElfish later drove home Winkler with a single, giving SVC a 2-0 lead.
Â
However, the hosts came right back with a 2-run home run off starter Martin in the bottom of the first, tying the game.
Â
In the third, another McElfish single drove Winkler home for a second time, after Winkler had reached on an error. Â Once again, the lead was short lived, as the Tomcats tied the game on a pair of hits.
The Bearcats then broke the game open in the fifth inning. Â
Eddie Kilkeary led off with a walk, then scored on a double by McElfish. Â Milke then singled, moving McElfish to third. Â
Luke Fox then hit a pinch-hit double that cleared the bases and made the score 6-3.  Winkler singled home Fox, then moved to second on the throw home.  A single by Kuny plated Winkler with the fifth run of the inning.
Brennan Hoffer doubled home a pair of runs in the 6th inning to give SVC some insurance.
Martin worked into the fourth inning before being relieved by
Ben Davis (1-1), who picked up the win. Â
The Bearcats are now 12-14 overall, 7-7 in the PAC. Â The team will take a break from its conference slate for a doubleheader at Penn State-Altoona on Thursday, April 20.
