The Bearcat baseball team dropped a pair of conference games to visiting Waynesburg University on Senior Day in Latrobe.
Waynesburg won game one by a score of 6-2 before coming back from a 4-0 deficit to win the second game, 11-8.
In game one, after escaping a bases loaded jam in the top of the first inning, SVC got on the board with a run in the bottom of the frame.
Tanner Yard singled to lead off and move to second on a walk by
Luke Fox. After one out,
Greg Martin scored Yard on an RBI single to make it 1-0 SVC.Â
The Yellow Jackets tied the game with a solo home run in the fourth by Ben Miller. Waynesburg would take a 3-1 lead with two runs in the top of the fifth inning and added three unearned runs in the sixth, taking advantage of two Bearcat errors in the inning.Â
Brennan Hoffer doubled home
Ramon Milke in the bottom of the 7th to close out the scoring, with the Bearcats falling 6-2.Â
Yard and Fox recorded two hits each in the loss, while
Brennan Hoffer had the lone extra base hit of the game. Senior pitcher
Dave Culeton suffered the loss in the opener, allowing three runs on five hits in 4.1 innings. Culeton struck out three and walked two. Â
Dylan Stark worked 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
The Bearcats got on the board early in game two. In the bottom of the second,
Braden Hoffer struck out but reached base when the pitch went to the back screen.Â
Brennan Hoffer then doubled home his brother, putting SVC in front, 1-0.Â
Brennan Hoffer later scored when
Tanner Yard reached on an error.

In the third,
TJ Kuny singled, then
Patrick McElfish followed with a 2-run home run to center field, putting the Bearcats up by a score of 4-0.

The Jackets answered with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, including a solo home run by Tyler Godwin. In the fifth, the visitors took advantage four hit batsmen, five hits and an error, tallying 9 runs to make the score 11-4.

SVC was far from finished, as
Chris Winkler led off with a single, then moved to third on a double by
Braden Hoffer. A sacrifice fly by
Brennan Hoffer scored Winkler, then
Nick LaCava singled to put runners at first and third.Â
Tanner Yard drove home Hoffer with an infield single, then
Luke Fox singled to load the bases. A sacrifice fly by
TJ Kuny made the score 11-7. A single by
Bobby Finn reloaded the bases, and
Patrick McElfish singled home another run to make the score 11-8.Â

Scott Hefty came out of the Waynesburg bullpen and shut down the Bearcats in the 9th.

Ben Davis (1-2) took the loss in relief of starter
Greg Martin, while
Matt Whittaker threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.Â
