The SVC baseball team fought back from an early deficit to defeat the Thiel Tomcats by a score of 5-4 at Bearcat Ballfield.
Thiel scored a pair of runs in the top of the first, then added two more in the third on a 2-run home run by Filippo Costanzo to take a 4-0 lead.
Â
The Bearcats got on the board in the fourth, as
Luke Fox singled to lead off then moved to third when
Eddie Kilkeary reached on an error.  Fox scored on a balk, then Martin doubled home Kilkeary to make the score 4-2.
Â
An inning later,
Parker Janosko led off with a double, then scored on a single by
Tanner Yard. Fox then followed with a double that plated Yard, tying the game. After Kilkeary singled and moved Fox to third, Martin grounded out to the first baseman, scoring Fox to give SVC a 5-4 lead.
Â
In the top of the sixth, starter
Jimmy Malone gave up a single and a walk, and with two outs
Dylan Pietrantoni came out of the bullpen to get the final out and preserve the one-run lead.
Â
In the eighth, a leadoff walk and a sacrifice bunt put a runner at second with one out for the Tomcats. Pietrantoni then got the next batter to strike out looking, before Alex Lam stepped to the plate and sent a sharp single to left.Â
Matt Morrone fielded it on one hop and threw a strike to home plate, where Janosko was in position for the tag to end the inning.
Pietrantoni then worked a scoreless ninth inning for his third save of the season. Â
Malone (5-3) earned the win, as the Bearcats improved to 8-10 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. Â Thiel is now 11-8.
The Bearcats return to action on Friday (April 28), hosting Washington & Jefferson College in a PAC twinbill. Â The games were originally slated for Saturday, but have been moved up in anticipation of poor weather. Â First pitch will be 2PM.
