Cletus Helton had a career-high 20 points, and
Mike Simmons added 18 to lead Saint Vincent to a 89-65 victory over visiting Bethany College.

Mike Simmons started the game with a three for the Bearcats just 20 seconds into play.  A pair of scores by
David Stephen made it a 7-2 game at the 17:44 mark, and four points from Helton helped increase the lead to 14-7 near the 12-minute mark. Â
Saint Vincent remains undefeated in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with the win, moving to 5-0, 12-2 overall.

A jumper by
Andrew Reed later made the score 19-12, but the Bison scored the game's next six points, cutting the gap to just one with 8:15 left in the half.

Two layups by
Ryan Dutton kept SVC in front, 25-21 with just under 7 minutes remaining, but the Bison (1-13, 0-5 PAC) later closed to within a point, 29-28, after a Malik Ellis three.

Dutton once again took control inside the paint, hitting a layup that made the score 32-28, and
Shemar Bennett added a score to make it a 6-point game with 1:35 left.

Early in the second half, a three by Simmons extended the lead to seven, 42-35, and he later hit another shot from outside the arc to make the score 47-39 with 15:49 to go.

Back-to-back driving layups by Helton pushed the lead to nine, 51-42, then
Kyle Pope hit a three to make it a 12-point game with 12:40 remaining.

Helton later scored on a driving layup, drew a foul, and completed the three-point play.  On the next Bethany possession, he came up with a steal, then dunked on a fast break.  Stephen followed with a steal and a three that pushed the lead to 66-49, completing a 10-0 Saint Vincent run.

With under five minutes remaining, two straight scores by Bennett gave the hosts an 80-61 lead, and
Tom Neugebauer added six late points as SVC pulled away to a 24-point victory.

Joining Helton and Simmons in double figures on the night was Bennett, who had 15 points and a game-high 9 rebounds.  Reed had 5 assists, and Helton added 4 steals.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Wednesday evening (January 9) on the road at Waynesburg University at 7:30PM.
