The Saint Vincent men's bowling team, competing in its first Ohio Bowling Conference tournament of the season, finished third among 14 teams, a solid outing for the young team.
Competing at The Palace in Columbus, Ohio, the Bearcats started the day strong, sitting in fourth place after the initial game of the day, and held that position until the final block of the day, as the team finished well to jump into third place.
In the first traditional game, the team was led by junior transfer
Josh Marks, who shot a 256. Sophomore
Michael Fekete led the way with a 200 in the second game, while the fourth game saw a pair of Bearcats break the 200 mark, as sophomore
Anthony Strickland shot a 239 game and freshman
Brandon Dunmire finished at 211, as the team finished with a 949 team game, its best of the afternoon. The team averaged 181 in traditional games for the day, with Strickland leading the team with a 193.8 average, followed by Marks (192.2) and Fekete (185.8). Â
The team then threw 16 Baker team games divided into four blocks of four games each. SVC started strong, shooting 833 for the first four games (208.2 average), led by Strickland, who threw 10 strikes in his first 11 shots.
In the final Baker block, it was Dunmire with the strong finish, closing the day with six consecutive strikes. Â
Strickland led the team in Bakers as well, averaging 21.9 pins per frame, a 219 game equivalent. Dunmire finished at 19.1, while Marks averaged 18.75.
The University of Northwestern Ohio won the event, with an overall pin total of 7309. Muskingum University was second at 7020, with SVC third at 6674. Rounding out the top five were Robert Morris University (6641) and Walsh University (6451).
The SVC JV squad finished fourth among 11 teams competing in the other division. In traditional games, freshman
Ethan Dutka led the team with a 184.5 average, while
Alex Vickers finished at 178.8, and
Alex Colecchia averaged 176.8.Â
Garrett Contee had the highest score, a 200 game. In Bakers, the squad was led by Vickers, with a 17.78 per frame average, followed by
Nathan Horton (17.15) and Colecchia (17.00).
The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, October 23, as the team returns to Columbus for the second Ohio Bowling Conference tournament of the year.
