WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team split a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference matches at a tri-match hosted by Waynesburg University.
In the first match of the day, Saint Vincent fell, 3-1, to Thiel, before regrouping to defeat host Waynesburg by the same score.
In the Thiel match, the Bearcats dominated the opening set, committing just two attack errors as a team to hit .380 and take a 25-15 victory. The Tomcats would then storm back, taking the final three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-17, and 25-22.
Two Bearcats registered double-doubles in the loss, with
Luciana Polk leading the team in both kills (14) and digs (17), while
Carly Augustine recorded seven kills, 17 assists and 14 digs.
Caitlyn Figuly recorded six kills and registered a team-high three blocks, while
Madie Marsico finished with 16 digs and
Olivia Persin,
Nikki Friendshuh and
Lindsey Kocjancic shared the team lead with two aces apiece.
Saint Vincent then rebounded with a 3-1 victory over Waynesburg. The Bearcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead, with set wins of 25-19 and 25-15. The Yellow Jackets held off the sweep by taking the third set 25-22, before the Bearcats closed it out by winning the fourth set 25-17.
SVC's
Becca Miller led both sides with a season-high 12 kills, while Augustine narrowly missed a triple-double, finishing with nine kills, 23 digs and 23 assists. Polk had eight kills, 20 digs and two aces, while Kocjancic and Figuly shared the team lead with three blocks apiece. Saint Vincent served seven aces in the win, with Friensdhuh, Polk and Person finishing with two each.
Saint Vincent will now return to action on Thursday, Oct. 7, hosting Penn State-Altoona at 7 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Center.
