MEADVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 29) - The Saint Vincent women's swimmers traveled to non-conference foe Allegheny College for their first away meet of the 2021-22 season. Although the Bearcats posted many impressive performances, Allegheny edged its way to a 144-118 victory.
Lauren Connors continued her strong start to her junior season, earning three event wins. In the 100 backstroke, she turned in a time of 1:00.94 to earn a convincing victory by more than three seconds. She would follow that up with a win in the 200 backstroke, posting a time of 2:13.35, before earning her third win of the evening in the 200 individual medley, recording a time of 2:17.21.
Connors also joined with
Sara Basala,
Katie Kozy and
Cara Luallen in the 200 medley, placing second in a tight race with a time of 1:54.28.
Freshman
Sarah Alexander led the SVC distance contingent. In the 1000 freestyle, Alexander dominated with a time of 11:37.76 to win by more than 12 seconds, before she closed out her night with a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle, turning in a time of 5:37.62, just a quarter of a second out of first.
Erica Steele won the 200 freestyle, leading from start to finish to post a time of 2:03.95, before she placed second in the 500 freestyle in a time of 25.69 seconds. Steele added her second runner-up performance in the 100 freestyle, timed in 56.84 seconds.
Basala earned a pair of top-three individual finishes, placing second in the 200 breaststroke (2:43.74) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.52).
Katie Kozy led the Bearcats in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.78 to place second, while Lauran Krecota swam her way to a third-place finish in the 200 butterfly, timed in 2:26.34.
In the final event of the night, Kozy,
Abby Leskovansky,
Cara Luallen and Steele joined forces to swim a second-place time of 1:42.68, just barely being out touched by Allegheny's winning relay.
The Bearcats, now 1-2 in dual meets, will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 6, traveling to Indiana, Pennsylvania, to challenge Division-II Indiana University of Pennsylvania at an 11 a.m. meet.Â
