LANCASTER, Pa. (November 20, 2021) - The Saint Vincent women's swim team continued their strong showing at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational on the second day of the meet. The Bearcats sit in 6th place out of 11 teams.
To kick off the second day of racing, Lauren Krecota earned the first finals berth of the night in the 400 IM, swimming a season best of 5:06.01, which she went on to a 5:01.12 in the C final. Julia Mikita and Elise Debrot joined Krecota in the C final. Mikita lowered her prelims time (5:19.17), a season best, to a 5:17.16 and Debrot came within a quarter second of beating her season best prelims time (5:27.79) with a 5:27.95 in finals.
Junior Katie Kozy took 11th in the 100 butterfly with a season best of 59.44, earning herself a lane in the B final, where she lowered her time to 59.14. Callysta Fontanazza joined Kozy in the B final after a 59.89 season best that secured her a 14th place finish. Fontanazza went on to lower her time to a 59.52 in finals.
Lauren Connors led the Bearcats in the 200 freestyle, swimming her way into the A final with a season best of 1:58.56. Connors went on to swim a 1:59.60 in finals, taking seventh place. Erica Steele claimed a berth in the B finals after a season best of 2:00.63, where she swam a 2:01.68.
Sara Basala and Madison Cassidy both secured spots in the B final of the 100 breaststroke. Basala took 12th in prelims with a season best of 1:10.01, a time she lowered to a 1:09.47 in finals. Cassidy also dropped time in her second go at the event, lowering a season best 1:10.42 prelims time to a 1:10.16 in finals.
After a season best swim of 1:05.83, Mikita earned 21st place and a berth in the C finals, where she lowered her time to a 1:05.36.
The Bearcats finished off their morning with the 800 free relay, where a team of Krecota, Cara Luallen, Mikita, and Basala took 12th with a time of 8:41.20.
In the second relay of the day, Connors, Basala, Kozy, and Steele joined forces to take 6th with a 1:48.94.
The Bearcats wrap up their weekend of racing at Franklin and Marshall on Sunday, November 21.
