MEADVILLE, Pa (Oct. 21)- The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team traveled to Meadville, Pa for a PAC match against Allegheny, where the Bearcats fell in three sets, 3-0.
The Gators won all three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-20.
Kaelyn Staples and
Luciana Polk each recorded six kills in the match for SVC.
Carly Augustine tallied five kills and 13 assists in the match.
Haley Stormer recorded five kills in the loss for the Bearcats.
In the first set, the Bearcats got off to a fast star. Saint Vincent took an early 6-1 lead in the match, forcing an Allegheny timeout. The Gators responded with a 12-2 run out of the timeout, taking a 13-8 lead in the match. Allegheny continued on the attack, scoring seven of the next 11 points, increasing their lead to 20-12.
Saint Vincent answered scoring three of the next four to cut the Allegheny lead to 21-15. Allegheny once again answered the Bearcats run with a run of their own, this one went 4-1, giving the first set to the Gators (25-16), and taking a 1-0 lead in the match.
It was tight early on in the second set, as the Bearcats and Gators traded points, as the game was tied 7-7. Both teams continued to trade points as Allegheny held a slight lead at 13-12. The Gators increased their lead to 21-13 with an 8-1 run, destined to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Bearcats battled outscoring the Gators 6-4 in the final ten points of the set, but it wasn't enough as the Gators win the set (25-19), taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, it was Allegheny who got off to a hot start, as the Gators opened up to an 8-4 lead. The Bearcats responded with a quick 7-0 run to take an 11-8 lead in the set. Allegheny scored three straight to tie the set up at 11-11. The teams continued to trade points as the match was tied at 18-18 and then 19-19. The Gators closed out the match on a 6-1 run to win the set (25-20), and the match 3-0.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, October 25 when they play host Franciscan. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Center.
