Thursday's game resumed a long rivalry between Saint Vincent and Saint Francis, as it marked the 66th all-time meeting between the two squads and first since 1975-76. The two teams played at least one every year from 1945-76. The matchup also served as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Saint Francis's Stokes Athletic Center. Named after the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, Saint Francis alum and NBA all-star, the Stokes Center hosted its first men's basketball game on Dec. 4, 1972, which also pitted the Red Flash and the Bearcats.
Luke Ruggery led four Saint Francis scorers in double figures with 18 points, while Josh Cohen recorded a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double.
Saint Vincent will now return to action on Saturday, Dec. 10, hosting Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Allegheny College at 4 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Student Center. On Christmas in the Carey Center, fans are urged to wear their ugliest Christmas sweater, while there will be a number of special prize giveaways for students and fans.
The Allegheny tilt will mark the Bearcats' fourth in six days, closing SVC's busiest week of the season.
