BETHLEHEM, Pa. (May 18) – Sophomore
Tim Patterson claimed gold in the 5,000-meter run to lead Saint Vincent track and field on the first day of the 2022 All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Moravian University.
Patterson topped a strong 27-runner field in a time of 14:44.73, winning by a five-second margin and narrowly missing his own school record by a quarter of a second. The sophomore was in the lead pack for the duration of the race, sitting between second and fifth place for the first 3,000 meters. He then made a late move to pull away and seized first place on his penultimate lap, covering the final 800 meters in 2:12 to distance himself from the field.
He was one of two Bearcats to complete events on day one of the regional championship, joining
Alissa Beam, who competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and posted a time of 12:45.91.
The Bearcat men and women will be back in action at Moravian on Thursday, with four competitors taking part in the 800-meter run.
Sydney Green will represent SVC in the women's race, scheduled for approximately 2:25 p.m., while Patters,
Tyler Laughery and
