INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
The Saint Vincent College men's bowling team overcame a slow start to finish second in the Greater Pittsburgh Collegiate Classic, among 8 teams competing at Hillview Lanes in Greensburg.
Shooting team scores of just 835 and 863 in the first two traditional games, the Bearcats were in sixth place early in the day.
In game three, junior
Michael Fekete and sophomore
Brandon Dunmire both recorded spares in the first frame, then strung strikes straight through into the 10th. Fekete finished with a 279, while Dunmire ended with a 276 game, both career collegiate high, as the Bearcats ended the game with a team score of 1104, a modern-day school record.
The record didn't hold for long, as the team surpassed it with an 1123 the next game. Freshman
James Gatto threw 10 strikes in a row en route to his collegiate career best game of 277. Junior
Alex Vickers added a 241, while Dunmire finished with a 224. The two-game total of 2237 jumped Saint Vincent from sixth to second in the standings, as the teams entered the 16-game Baker round.
In Baker team play, the Bearcats posted a team-high 243 but could not catch first place SUNY-Erie out of Buffalo, New York, as the Kats held on for the tournament title, with the Bearcats in second.
Dunmire was named to the All-Tournament team, finishing in a tie for fourth among the field of 60 bowlers. His four-game total was 829, an average of 207.2. Fekete finished 7th overall at 812 (average of 203), while Gatto was eights (809, 202.5 average).
For the Bearcat JV squad, sophomore
Steve Perekiszka led the way with a 710 (177.5 average).
Saint Vincent will return to action on the weekend of January 21-22, traveling to Columbus, Ohio for a tournament on January 21, before continuing on to Louisville, Kentucky for a January 22 event.
