CANTON, Ohio (Nov. 17)- The Saint Vincent women's swimming team sits in fourth place out of 14 teams at the Malone Invitational after two days of competition.
Sarah Alexander led the way for SVC. Alexander placed third in the 200-yard medley relay racing a time of 8:17.76, which was an 18-second time improvement from her result in the qualifiers on Friday morning.
Alexander also placed 10
th out of 27 in the 1650-freestyle event on Thursday night. She raced a time of 19:22.42. Finishing ahead of her in that event was her teammate,
Rachel Hutchinson who swam a time of 18:25.25 to place fourth in the event.
Hutchinson also placed third in the 400-yard IM, swimming a time of 4:59.77, a 12-second improvement from her race in the qualifiers earlier in the day.
Hutchinson and Alexander teamed up with
Abby Leskovansky and
Emma Martz in the 800-yard freestyle relay to help lead SVC to a third-place finish in the event.
Leskovansky was strong for Saint Vincent as well, placing second in the 50-yard freestyle (24.61) and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke event (1:02.63). To conclude the night, she was a part of the third place 200-yard medley relay team as well, teaming up with Martz, Alexander and
Lily Holsey.
Valerie Clabaugh placed sixth for the Bearcats in the 100-yard breaststroke. She swam a time of 1:13.73 to finish sixth out of 24 swimmers in the event.
Teresa Grimm added a ninth-place finish for the Bearcats in the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming a time of 1:14.63, a two-second improvement from her qualifier race.
The Bearcats will return to competition tomorrow, Saturday, November 18, when they conclude the Malone Invitational. The final day of the meet has prelims scheduled for 10 a.m. with the finals races beginning at 5 p.m.
