Saint Vincent Duo Earns PAC Honors

TRAFFORD, Pa. (Oct. 22)- Two Saint Vincent College student-athletes have been recognized with Athlete of the Week honors by the Presidents' Athletic Conference for their performances over the week of October 14.

Junior Emma Martz was named the PAC Women's Swimmer/Diver of the Week, while freshman Grace Neubert was named PAC Newcomer of the Week for cross country for the third time this season.

At Mount Union in the Bearcats season opener, Martz had three individual wins and swam a leg on a first-place relay squad for the Bearcats. Individually, she swept the butterfly events, winning the 50 in 28.08 seconds and the 100 in 1:03.08, while she earned a three-second victory in the 200 IM (2:24.81). Martz also swam the butterfly leg in 1:03.14 in the 400-medley relay, helping Saint Vincent to a one-second victory. Her 50/100 Fly, as well as relay time, are the best in the PAC so far this year, while her 200 IM mark is the third fastest.

Neubert on the other hand placed 17th overall in the 262-runner field, and fourth among all freshmen competitors at the Rowan Border Battle on Saturday, with a six-kilometer time of 22:04. Neubert's effort helped lead the Bearcats to a sixth place finish out of 31 participating teams.

Martz and the Bearcats swim team will return to action on Friday, October 18 when they take on Penn State-Altoona in Saint Vincent's home opener, while Neubert and the Saint Vincent cross country team will take part in the President's Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday, November 2 at Lawrence County Fairgrounds in New Castle, Pa.
