INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
The SVC women's bowling team went undefeated on the opening weekend of the 2025-26 season, setting multiple school records and winning the Grapevine Classic championship in Erie, Pennsylvania. The team won the tournament title by a total of 902 pins over 10 games.
The Bearcats set two team scoring records, and junior
Skyy Nicholls was named the Tournament MVP after setting a school record for the highest individual five-game pin total in program history. Nicholls and classmate
Daphne Stuber were named to the All-Tournament team.
DAY ONE
The Bearcats led the opening match of the weekend from start to finish, defeating D'Youville College by a score of 941-804. Nicholls started the game with six consecutive strikes, finishing with a 218 to lead the team. Sophomore
Brooke Street finished with a 199.
In game two, SVC faced longtime rival Daemen University. The match was close throughout, but the Bearcats prevailed, 998-944. Junior
Daphne Stuber threw six strikes in a row late in the game for a team-high 246, while Nicholls added a 209 and
Mareana Pilyih finished at 204.
The Bearcats then set a school record in the third game, with a team total of 1061 pins, one pin higher than the previous program best. Nicholls threw strikes in 8 of the first 9 frames, leading the team with a 254. Freshman
Savannah Douglass, making her collegiate debut, had strikes in five of six frames mid-game, finishing with a 217, while Stuber also added a 217. For the second straight game, Pilyih shot a 204 as SVC defeated Pitt-Bradford, 1061-843.
Against Hilbert College, SVC and the Hawks were tied through five frames, before the Bearcats pulled away late to a narrow 891-874 win. Stuber (198) and Douglass (195) had the top scores.
The final match of the day turned out to be the toughest. Host Penn State-Behrend had a 30-pin lead throughout much of the game. Three consecutive strikes by Street, and double by Douglass, and five strikes in a row by Nicholls kept the Bearcats in the game, but the team still was trailing going into the final frame. After Douglass converted a spare to start the frame, Street found herself in trouble with a split, before sophomore
Kaylie Kurland stepped in to convert the spare from the left side to keep the Bearcats in range. Stuber and Pilyih each posted marks in their tenth frames, leaving it to Nicholls in the anchor position. Needing two strikes to secure the victory, Nicholls converted on both shots and finished with a 9-count on the last ball to lift SVC to a 972-965 victory and keep the team undefeated for the day.
The team's five-game total of 4863 (194.5 average) set a new school single-day record, beating the old mark by 33 pins.
Nicholls' five-game total of 1077 (215.4 average) established a new school record, and was tops among the field of bowlers. Stuber finished with a total of 997 (199.4 average), placing fifth overall.
DAY TWO
The second day featured five sets of five Baker team games. In the opening match against Daemen, the Bearcats started with games of 210 and 202 to open a commanding 166-pin lead, then cruised to a 949-766 victory.
The team's winning streak ran to seven games after a comeback victory against D'Youville in round two. SVC trailed by 13 pins after two games, but won the third game by 105, 222-117, before finishing the round with games of 193 and 207 for a 972-833 win.
Up next was a rematch against Penn State-Behrend, and SVC jumped to an early lead with a 232-151 win in the opening game. After the Lions won games two and three to cut the gap to 61, the hosts went on a tear in game four, winning 237-198, leaving SVC with a 22-pin lead going to the last game. Behrend took a 23-pin lead halfway through the game to lead the match by a single pin, but SVC bounced back to only drop the final game by a 170-168 margin, holding on for a 943-923 match win.
In round four, SVC faced Hilbert College and the Bearcats were down by 8 pins after the first three games, despite throwing a 202 in game three. The Bearcats then strung together six consecutive strikes en route to a 230-156 win. SVC captured the final game 182-156, securing a 939-846 victory for the match to improve to 9-0.
The weekend ended with a position round match against #2 seed Penn State-Behrend. After dropping game one by just 2 pins, SVC bounced back to win the next two games and take a 38-pin lead, and the team pulled away to a 946-850 victory to complete the weekend sweep.
For the day, Pilyih led the way with a per-game average of 211.6. Nicholls averaged 204.6, while sophomore
Lilly Houle averaged 203 and Street finished the day at 196.
SVC is now 10-0 on the season and will return to action with a pair of tournaments in Canton, Michigan in two weeks.
