FREDONIA, N.Y. (Nov. 21)- The Saint Vincent women's swim team starts at the Blue Devil Invitational with day one of competition.
The Bearcats competed in both preliminary and final rounds of individual events and only did relays at night during finals. Friday started off tame with the 500 Freestyle, 200 Individual Medley (IM), and 50 Freestyle for individual events and the 200 Freestyle and 400 Medley relays.
The women walked into the meet seeded fourth and started off strong. After day one they stand in fourth place.
During finals, two sets of 200 Freestyle relay teams competed for SVC. The A-Relay placed the highest with a second-place touch (1:43.77). This relay consisted of Adrianna Grimm, Cecilia Hickin, Fallyn Zembiec, and Ava Sutter.
Likewise, at the end of the night the 400-medley relay competed. The Bearcats were best represented by Zembiec, Hickin, Emma Martz, and Deanna Miller on the A-relay with a third place finish (4:17.19).
SVC was represented by Brook McDermott, Ashley Thiel, Rachel Hutchinson, and Addison Boswell in the 500 Freestyle.
Hutchinson led the pack sliding into the A final and finishing eighth (5:28.46). McDermott competed in the B final and placed 13th respectively (5:38.91).
The 200 IM was next with Teresa Grimm, Miller, Valerie Clabaugh, Chaely Raynor and Martz all swimming both prelims and finals.
Martz had an impressive finish of third place and grabbed a season best in the process (2:18.50). Grimm, Miller, and Clabaugh were all close behind scoring in at ninth, 15th, and 18th place.
The 50-freestyle rounded out the night for SVC. The fastest paced event in swimming proved to be exciting with Grimm, Sutter, Zembiec, Hickin, and Sydney Burton all representing the Bearcats.
Like all other 50-yard races the finals' heats were decided by less than a second.
Grimm was coming in hot with a fifth place touch (25.18), Zembiec came in next at 9th (25.96).
Hickin and Sutter were close behind finishing 11th (26.08) and 14th (26.11).
The Bearcats will compete again both Saturday and Sunday to finish out the Blue Devil Invitational.
