FREDONIA, N.Y. (Nov. 23)- The Saint Vincent College (SVC) women's swim team wraps up swimming at the Blue Devil Invitational in day three of competition.
The Bearcats competed in both preliminary and final rounds of individual events and only did relays at night during finals. Sunday was the longest day for the team. They competed in the 200 Backstroke, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, 100 Freestyle, and 1650 Freestyle for individual events and the 400 Freestyle relay.
The women walked into day two of the meet in fourth place and ended the night in fourth place.
The night portion of competition started with the fastest and final heat of the mile, the 1650 Freestyle. Ashley Thiel swam in the B Final in the morning and finished 16th overall (21:17.62). Rachel Hutchinson and Brook McDermott both swam at night touching in to 2nd and 9th respectively. (18:15.70) (19:38.52)
On the shorter side of events, the meet started both prelims and finals with the 200 Backstroke. Fallyn Zembiec, Ava Sutter, and Thiel competing for the Bearcats. Zembiec led the ladies the day before finishing seventh (2:14.66). Sutter finished 13th (2:24.87) with Thiel coming in at 19th (2:32.52).
The 100 Freestyle was next with Adrianna Grimm, Cecilia Hickin, Sydney Burton, and Chaely Raynor all flying into finals. Grimm was the highest finisher with an eighth place finish (56.57). Hickin was close behind in ninth place dropping time from her morning swim (57.74).
Next, was the breaststroke event of the day which the 200. The women had two swimmers in this event, Valerie Clabaugh and Deanna Miller. They both swam great and finished in 13th and seventh place. (2:48.28) (2:39.96)
To round out the stroke events for the weekend the Bearcats swam the 200 Butterfly. Addison Boswell and Teresa Grimm swam for the women and touched in back-to-back 9th and 10th. (2:28.57) (2:37.57)
To end the night the 400 Freestyle relay was swam. The Bearcats swam an A, B, and C relay. The A Relay finished the fastest with a 6th place and 3:51.53.
This marked the end of the Blue Devil Invite, and the mark of mid-season for the Bearcats!
