pWASHINGTON, Pa. (Nov. 5)- The Saint Vincent wrestling team was defeated 29-20 by W&J in the Bearcats Presidents Athletic Conference opener on Wednesday night.
SVC trailed for most of the night and the Presidents handed SVC losses in two of the final three weight classes to earn the victory.
After falling in the 125 lbs. weight class,
Logan Connolly picked up a pin at 4:39 to tie the match at 6-6. W&J followed with a major decision at 141 lbs. to regain the lead at 10-6.
However, the back-and-forth match continued as
Anthony Orlandini picked up a 21-6 tech fall victory to give Saint Vincent an 11-10 advantage. W&J answered quickly with a pin at 157 lbs. and decision at 165 lbs. to push their lead to 19-11.
Chase Brandebura kept Saint Vincent in the match with a 4-0 decision in the 174 lbs. weight class to cut the lead to 19-14.
The Presidents went on to clinch the match with a pin at 184 lbs. and major decision at 197 lbs. to gain a 27-14 lead.
Jonah McCoy ended the match on a strong note for the Bearcats with a pin at 3:35.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Thursday, November 13 with a road non-conference dual at Pitt-Bradford. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
