TEAM RESULTS
The Saint Vincent women's bowling team won all five matches in the Unicorn Classic, held at Wildlife Lanes in Lower Burrell, PA, to improve to 19-0 on the season.
The team fell three pins short of making the championship match, settling for the win in the 3rd/4th place match for tournament purposes, but finished first overall in total pins among the field of 10 teams.
In the first match, which featured five Baker team games with the winner determined by total pins, Saint Vincent and Lewis University remained close after two games, with SVC holding a slim 4-pin lead. The Bearcats then won the next two games by scores of 206-173 and 193-170, before capturing the last game 173-163 to secure a 70-pin victory, 932-862.
The next two matches saw the Bearcats forced to come from behind in the fifth and final game of the block. Against Hilbert, SVC dug itself a 52-pin hole after game one, falling 197-145. After the teams switched lanes for game two, SVC won 174-135 to cut the gap to just 13. SVC once again struggled on the right lane in game three, falling 153-144, before dropping game four by a score of 161-149. Trailing by 32 pins going to the final game, the Bearcats needed a strong finish, and the team stepped up, shooting a 212 to Hilbert's 165, winning the match by a score of 824-811.
Against D'Youville, SVC won the first game by 16 pins, but dropped the next two games by a total of 48 pins, to trail by 32 going into game four. A 194-184 victory for SVC brought the team back within 22 going to the final game. Once again, the Bearcats came together and battled back to win the fifth game, 198-172, to secure a four-pin win, 899-895.
In round four, SVC shot games of 161, 253, 207, 169 and 213 to defeat Ursuline College. The team's total of 1003 for five games (200.6 average) brought them back from 136 pins out of first place to just 14 pins. However, SVC missed making the championship match by just three pins. Muskingum and Lewis Universities met in the championship match, with Lewis securing the victory after the teams were tied going into the final game.
The Bearcats wrapped up the day by winning the third place match against Penn State-Behrend, 976-858. With the fifth block average of 195.2, Saint Vincent surpassed the day's total scores for both teams in the title match, finishing with a per-game average of 185.2 on the afternoon.
