GRANTHAM, Pa. (Dec. 6)- The Saint Vincent wrestling team placed ninth out of 15 teams at the two-day Messiah Petrofes Invitational.
Three Bearcats recorded podium finishes at the event, which included two first place results.
Anthony Orlandini (149 lbs.) and
Chase Brandebura (174 lbs.) won their respective weight classes, while
Ryan Weinzen (197 lbs.) finished sixth in his weight class. The three combined to go 12-1 over the course of the weekend.
Orlandini went a perfect 5-0 in the 149 lbs. weight class. The sophomore picked up picked up a pin, major decision, technical fall, and two decision victories to round his first place result for Saint Vincent. In the finals, Orlandini earned a 7-3 decision over Jake Mitchell of Gettysburg College.
Brandebura had a similar weekend to Orlandini as he went 4-0 to win the 174 lbs. weight class. Brandebura earned his four victories by pin, technical fall, decision, and major decision. In the finals, he earned a 20-6 major decision over Cristian Gioia of New York University.
Weinzen finished sixth after going 3-1, before his tournament got cut short due to default (injury prevention). Weinzen won by two decisions and one major decision.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, January 3, competing at the Fairmont State Open. The open is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
