GREENWOOD, Ind. (March 25)- Four Saint Vincent women's basketball players were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, which was announced earlier today.
Senior
Emily Thompson, juniors
Reese Gadsby and
Makenna Maier, along with sophomore
Danielle Pontius all took how the academic honor for the Bearcats.
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher and must be a standout on the field, competing in at least 90 percent of their team's games and starting at least 66 percent of their team's games.
Thompson (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) earns the honor for the third consecutive year with Saint Vincent. The senior guard concluded her Bearcats career averaging 9.8 points per game and just under four rebounds per game as well. She also recorded 15 steals over the course of the season for SVC as well. Thompson scored in double figures in 11 different games, including two 20-point games for Saint Vincent during her senior campaign, helping the Bearcats to qualify for the Presidents Athletic Conference playoffs.
Gadsby (Mercer, Pa./Lakeview) played in 26 games with 21 starts during her junior season with Saint Vincent. The junior guard averaged five points per game, while also grabbing three rebounds per game over the course of the season as well. She also totaled an impressive 26 steals in over 600 minutes of court time in route to the Bearcats earning a spot in the PAC playoffs.
Maier (Butler, Pa./Butler) was named to the Presidents Athletic Conference All-PAC Second team during her junior campaign. The junior forward led Saint Vincent with an average of 10.8 PPG, while also leading the Bearcats with 8.3 RPG game as well. She recorded six double-doubles over the course of the year and also scored in double figures in 14 of the games she played in as well. Maier's top two performances of the season came in wins against SUNY Canton, where she scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Bethany, when she scored 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Pontius (New Castle, Pa./Laurel) started in all 26 games for the Bearcats during her sophomore season. The sophomore guard averaged 5.5 points per game, while dishing out 56 assists over the course of the season as well. Pontius scored in double figures in five different games for Saint Vincent over the course of the season.
