SVC earns first win in big way

The Lady Bearcats earned their first win of the season, establishing a new team record for goals with a 7-3 victory over the College of Notre Dame (MD).

Five different players scored goals for the Lady Bearcats, led by a hat trick from Sam Larkin, as SVC out-shot Notre Dame 27-7.

The Lady Bearcats got the scoring underway early, with Kayla Howard scoring on a one-time from Kelly Naugle just six minutes into play to make the score 1-0.

Larkin then erupted, scoring three times in a four-minute span, the last goal coming via a penalty stroke with 13:30 left in the first half, to make the score 4-0.

SVC maintained the four-goal lead through the intermission,  before Notre Dame's Sarah Morris put her team on the board with a goal in the game's 47th minute.

The Lady Bearcats then put the game away, with Kasara Nee, Maria Wohar, and Ashley Williams scoring in a five-minute span to make the score 7-1 with 11 minutes remaining in regulation.

Notre Dame scored twice in the final eight minutes, with their final goal coming with just two seconds left, but the hosts were unable to overcome the large deficit and the Lady Bearcats left Maryland with their first victory of the season.

In addition to Larkin, Williams also had a multi-point game, adding an assist to her second half goal.  Megan Vargo earned the victory in goal, making three saves.

The win moves the Lady Bearcats' record to 1-5, and the team will return to action on Wednesday, traveling to central Pennsylvania to take on Wilson College beginning at 4pm.
