The Saint Vincent College field hockey team was edged by Sweet Briar (VA), 1-0, on the first day of the Bridgewater (VA) Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Sweet Briar recorded the game's only goal at the 28:58-mark when Alexandra St. Pierre scored on a slow roller that found its way past SVC goalkeeper
Bridget Harner.
For the contest, the Bearcats held an eight-to-six edge on shots, with sophomore forward
Kayla Howard accounting for seven of the shots. Junior
Jessica Drury registered the only other shot for SVC on Saturday afternoon.
Sweet Briar held an 11-6 edge on corners, after taking only one in the first half.
Harner suffered the loss after allowing one goal and recording three saves while playing all 70 minutes. Sweet Briar goalie Madeline Wilson posted the shutout after making four saves in 70 minutes.
SVC falls to 1-3 on the season and Sweet Briar picks up their first win of the campaign to improve to 1-2.
The Bearcats return to action tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 11, when they play the host Eagles at 3 p.m.
