Field Hockey edged by Hood, 1-0

Hood used a goal in the 45th minute to edge the Saint Vincent field hockey team, 1-0, at the SVC Turf.

The Blazers' Rachel Gannon scored the decisive goal on an assist from teammate Megan Cahill at the 44:37-mark.

On the afternoon, both teams recorded six shots, with SVC holding a 4-1 edge on shots in the first half, while Hood recorded three more penalty corners, 7-4. The Bearcats were led by sophomore Kayla Howard who posted four shots in the contest, with junior Jessica Drury and senior Ashley Nowicki each adding one shot.

SVC goalie Bridget Harner suffered the loss, allowing one goal while making two saves. Hood goalie Ashley Stennett made two saves in the shutout.

The Bearcats fall to 1-5 on the season, while the Blazers even their 2011 record at 2-2.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 20, hosting Wilson College at 4 p.m. on the SVC Turf.
