Despite a solid second-half effort by Westminster, Saint Vincent rolled to a 72-55 victory Saturday night at the Carey Center to open PAC conference play.
Armani Fountain led the Bearcats with a strong rebounding performance to help Saint Vincent capture the win.
Westminster took an early 4-0 lead, but SVC responded with its own six-point run.
Isaac Turner hit a three for the Bearcats at the 15-minute mark after an offensive rebound by Fountain. Two more offensive rebounds by Fountain and
Dillon Stith allowed SVC to take a seven-point lead, 15-8.
Following a layup by Westminster's Doug Smith and three free throws by Paul Carswell, the Bearcats went on a commanding nine-point run. SVC closed out the half leading 35-15, with 16 of their 35 points coming off of Westminster's 11 first-half turnovers.
The Titans would get within 5 points of the Bearcats in the second half with a strong performance at the free throw line by Carswell, who scored 16 of his 20 points from the line. However, it would not be enough to overcome the Bearcat offense.
Chris Klimchock drained a key three with 4:23 remaining in the game to give SVC a comfortable 8-point lead, 61-53. Free throws by
Sean Kett, Stith, and
Chris Klimchock sealed the win for Saint Vincent.
