Chris Klimchock scored a career high 31 points, leading the Bearcats to a 74-66 victory over Geneva College on the road in Beaver Falls.
Klimchock provided much of the offense in the first half, starting with the team's first four points. After a score from
Isaac Turner made it 6-3.
Later, a score from
Edmond Wright II, a three by Klimchock, and a dunk by
Dillon Stith ran the SVC lead to 15-8, but the Golden Tornadoes slowly cut into the lead, with a Jordan Harbison three making it a 2-point Bearcat lead, 17-15, with 9:40 to go in the half.
A score by
Grant Latus near the four minute mark put SVC in front by five, 24-19, but the rest of the half would remain close, until
Sean Kett converted a conventional three-point play with 6 seconds remaining to send Saint Vincent into the half with a four-point lead, 31-27.
SVC got in foul trouble early in the second half, with Latus, Stith and Kett all picking up their fourth fouls in the first six minutes of play. Geneva was able to keep the game close, and eventually took a three-point lead (46-43) with 13:08 to go.
A pair of free throws by Kett and a three from Klimchock gave SVC back the lead, but another trey by Harbison once again gave the GTs the lead, 50-49, at the 9:42 mark.
The next several minutes were dominated by whistles, as both teams spent much of their time at the charity stripe.
Armani Fountain, Klimchock and Turner each hit shots to help run the lead to 54-50.
Up 58-56, SVC got a spark from Kett, who scored with 6 minutes left, then added a conventional three-point play less than 40 seconds later to make it 63-56. Klimchock then hit a key jumper with 2:49 on the clock and added a pair of free throws to put the game out of reach.
On the night, Klimchock was 10-of-15 from the floor.
Kett and Turner each added 14 points, and Kett had a team-high 4 rebounds.
For Geneva, Keynon Jackson tallied 14 points while Matt Lorello and Harbison added 12 each.
Saint Vincent is now 12-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, 17-5 overall. Geneva drops to 2-11 in the conference, 2-19 on the season. The Bearcats have an important game on Saturday at Bethany College at 4PM.
