The Bearcat baseball team held an early lead, but lost to Waynesburg University on the road by a score of 5-4.
Tanner Yard led off the game with a single, then moved to third on a double by
Luke Fox. Â With one out,
Greg Martin singled home Yard to get the Bearcats on the board. Â After Martin stole second,
Chris Winkler singled home Fox to make it 2-0.
In the third,
TJ Kuny and Martin hit back-to-back doubles to increase the advantage to three, but the Jackets came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Â
An inning later, Yard led off with an infield hit, then stole second. Kuny singled up the middle, scoring the Bearcats' fourth run.
In the bottom of the fifth, the hosts took control, getting four hits and a sacrifice bunt, leading to three runs off SVC starter
Jimmy Malone (4-3). Â Saint Vincent got a man on base in each of the final four innings - including three leadoff hits - but were unable to score, falling by a final of 5-4.
Saint Vincent (13-16) Â had 14 hits on the day, led by Yard, Kuny and Martin with three each. Â
Dave Culeton worked two scoreless innings in relief, while
Dylan Pietrantoni threw a scoreless 9th inning.
SVC is now 7-8 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, and will host Waynesburg for a doubleheader this weekend. Â The games, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 22, have been moved to Sunday, April 23 at 1PM.
