The Saint Vincent women's bowling team traveled to Michigan for a pair of tournaments, finishing with two top-three finishes.

The opening day event was comprised of six traditional games, and the Bearcats managed to claw their way out of a deep hole to finish third among 17 teams.

On day two, SVC held the lead throughout much of the day, then fell behind with one round to go before reclaiming the lead with just 10 frames remaining.  Howver, Lawrence Tech outlasted SVC in the final game for a narrow victory.

TOURNAMENT ONE
In game 1, the Bearcats got off to a slow start and never recovered, putting themselves in 15th place, 150 pins out of first.  Mareana Pilyih had a team-best score of 182.

The team improved in game two with a 908 team score (181 average), to move up to ninth place.  Skyy Nicholls led the way with a 207, while Kaylie Kurland added a 199.

Saint Vincent just missed the 900 mark in game three, shooting 897 as a team, with Pilyih posting the top score (213).  Nicholls finished with a 184 as the Bearcats moved up to eighth, a position they would hold through four games despite a lower team score (837).  Nicholls' 199 was the top score.

The Bearcats pulled it together in the final two games of the afternoon.  In game five, Nicholls (212), Pilyih (207) and Kurland (201) all broke the 200 mark, with the team finishing with a total score of 972 (194.4).  In game six, three Bearcats again crossed the 200 mark.  Brooke Street led the way with a 215, with Nicholls (211) and Savannah Douglass (203) close behind.  The team's final score of 977 was its best of the afternoon, and jumped the team to a third place finish, just 79 pins shy of the tournament title.

For the afternoon, Nicholls finished sixth in the field of 110 bowlers, while Mareana Pilyih was seventh.  Nicholls finished the afternoon with an average of 195.6, followed on the scoresheet by Pilyih (188.5) and Street (182.5).

On the JV side, SVC finished third as a team among seven teams, with Lexi Pilyih earning a fifth place finish with a six-game average of 185.2.

TOURNAMENT TWO
Saint Vincent got off to a much better start, shooting a team score of 999 in the opening round.  Mareana Pilyih led the way with a 246, while Brooke Street added a 227, and Kaylie Kurland had a 202.

The Bearcats then shot team scores of 925 in each of the next two games, to open a 126-pin lead on the field.  Lilly Houle led the way in game two with a 224, while a trio of Bearcats broke the 200 mark in game three.  Pilyih and Nicholls finished with 203 games, with Street adding a 200.

After three Traditional games, the format shifted to three sets of five Baker team games.  In the fourth round, SVC got off to a slow start with a 140 game, but came back with scores of 183, 207, 218 and 228 for a 976 total (195.2 average).  Round five was the low point of the day for the team, as the combined five-game total was just 833, dropping the Bearcats to second place, down by 21 pins to Lawrence Tech.

In the final round, SVC opened with games of 172, 204 and 161, and found themselves down by 55 pins with just two Baker games remaining.  However, a 203 in game four put the Bearcats temporarily back into first place by just three pins.  The Bearcats were unable to hold off LTU in the finale, losing 194-172, giving Lawrence Tech a 19-pin victory in the tournament.

Mareana Pilyih was the Tournament MVP, leading all bowlers with a Traditional game average of 210.6.  Street averaged 202 and made the All-Tournament Team in fourth place.

In Baker play, Street had a team-high 213.3 average, while Nicholls finished at 207.1.  Daphne Stuber was third at 185.

For the SVC JV, it was a title-winning day, as the Bearcats battled throughout the afternoon with Lawrench Tech's JV team, before pulling away by 86 pins at the end.  Lexi Pilyih made the All-Tournament Team with a second place finish, averaging 184.  Rachael Babinsack (177) and Ryanna Collazzo (171) were sixth and seventh, respectively.

Saint Vincent will return to action on Saturday, November 1, traveling to Ohio for the Muskie Mash, hosted by Muskingum University.
